Our Favourite YouTube Science Channels

I think YouTube is one of the best inventions of our generation - I really do! How amazing is it that anyone can bring their knowledge, skills, and creativity to a public forum and share awesome content with others for free. Sure there's stuff on Youtube that is not great, likely even destructive but you don't have to watch that!
Our kids do not have YouTube on their iPads or other devices but we do have it on our AppleTV and obviously our computer and we use it a ton. My one requirement is that when on YouTube it has to be visible to everyone so that there is an element of safety and they're not taking a rabbit hole into inappropriate content. YouTube Kids helps with that to some degree but isn't our go to.
So all that said, we've found some great science channels that our whole family enjoys and we want to share them!

BECAUSE SCIENCE

"Nerdist Science Editor Kyle Hill uses real-world math and science concepts to solve, measure, and make sense of pop culture quandaries in comics, video games, movies, and TV." - direct quote from his channel description.

This show is a current favourite of my son as the creator Kyle Hill takes happenings and events from things like super hero movies and breaks them down with real world science and math. It's got the appeal of these familiar characters and story lines combined with very in depth and well thought out scientific explanations. The host is engaging and interesting and graphically I like his style.

Coyote Peterson

We never miss an episode of Coyote Peterson's adventures with wildlife. He's kind of like the Steve Irwin of this generation - why someone hasn't given him a network television show I'm not sure!

The Brave Wilderness Channel is your one stop connection to a wild world of adventure and amazing up close animal encounters! Follow along with adventurer and animal expert Coyote Peterson and his crew as they lead you on 6 exciting expedition series - Breaking Trail, Beyond the Tide, Dragon Tails, Coyote's Backyard, Base Camp and On Location - featuring everything from Grizzly Bears and Crocodiles to Rattlesnakes and Tarantulas! Every single episode offers an opportunity to learn something new. (From channel description).

We find Coyote an engaging host, vastly knowledgeable about the wildlife he is encountering, educational and entertaining. Plus, he lets himself get bit by a lot of things. Not gonna lie - it's our favourite part.

Kevin is always whipping up some type of crazy experiment in his backyard. He does things like exploding arrows, rocket fidget spinners, molten metal squirt guns and building a giant mousetrap. We always look like the tense face emoji while we watch. Ha.

His experiments are typically always dangerous, explosive and loud and his neighbour is often yelling "Kevin! One more time and I'll call the cops!" over the fence. (Side note - I think he should do an episode with his neighbour).

These experiments are not something you'll ever do on your own so it's nice to watch someone else with the materials and tools take the risks to show you cool stuff.

Fun Science with Charlie McDonnel

We've just found Charlie but my kids do enjoy him, especially his songs. He explains concepts well and his videos are well produced!

These are a few of our favourites that we regularly watch. If you have any that your family loves please share!
